Boot Camp Assignment #2: Background

Then again, we pushed through the assignment #2 for strobist boot camp and the theme now is… Background.  We have to come up with a photo, in portrait, with a background.  This is now pretty challenging since we have to consider the weather, if we are shooting outside, and the theme of the photo.

My submitted entry for the bootcamp was shot in Tagaytay, where we stay overnight the past week.  The weather was not really cooperative since it was too windy.  Good thing, Tito Eddie was there.  He helped me by holding the lightstand and also the softbox.  I also have to pull out our bike to give it a “homey” feel.

It was a suprise that my photo won the contest.  Honestly, I wasn’t expecting it.  I find my competitor’s photo much worth to win.  But I don’t want to be a hypocryte (hehe), I was really happy when I found out that I won.  Hehehe.  It was my first time to actually won a photo contest. 🙂  Hehe.  Sorry for the excitement.

Other very competitive photos can be found here on this site. http://flickr.com/photos/shootlangbootcamp.

Chesed Abad: A Child Portraiture

I got the chance to take some child portraiture courtesy of Cris Abad’s son Chesed. Cris is a friend and a fellow EON member. We did the shoot in their place in Silang, Cavite where we also held the EB of EON group. Unfortunately, most of the confirmed models backed out leaving only one model that time. Other models came late where most of us when home hehe. The DUO photography shared some very interesting lessons and tips on strobing. After the lecture, they advised us to try on shooting with the model. Since most are shooting the model, Chesed was there and we joked that we do a photoshoot with him.

Woooohhhh!

Woooohhhh!

They said shooting with children would be very hard but Chesed made it easy.  He could be easily directed and commanded although you’re the first one who will make the pose, the face and the like. Hehe.  Chesed had different faces.  He show excitement, seriousness, joy and many others.

There’s a lot of future with this kid.  As jokingly said by one of our EON members, he should start going to VTRs, he might get discovered.

I was also very thankful that the lighting masters, DUO Photography, Doc Paul and Leo gave us some tips in shooting with controlled light.  We really learned a lot of things which we can use on our future shoots.
